Social Media

I believe that social media has increased the quality of news because people can get the news anywhere, anytime. In the past, people had to be in their home, watching a television to see the news. In this modern era, we can get the news through computers and cell phones. Everyone has a cell phone. We can view the news from anywhere in the world with the click of a button. The quality of news has also increased because now we hear about everything. We do not only hear about big events in the media, we hear about every piece of news that is published. Social media has increased the quality of news, and will continue to do so for generations to come.

  1. Cody, I agree with your statement that we can get news through computers and cell phones. And yes everyone does have a cell phone. But I don't agree with you that social media has increased the quality of news. I believe that there has been an increase in quantity as oppose to quality. If you think about all the people out there on the internet that are able to blog, podcast, or have a social network, they have the opportunity to create news. Some of them could be making things up or missing out on important information. Therefore, this could be decreasing the quality of news. But that is just my opinion!

  2. I agree with your post. New technology does make the weather more accessible to any person who owns a cell phone or computer. But, I have to agree with Jenn when she stated that the quality of news and information can be questionable. I agree that anyone can make up news through blogs, and other sites such as Yahoo Answers. AS a student we would not be able to pass through school without reliable sources of information. Would we be able to pass the MLA standards with information from wikipedia and yahoo answers?
